Council Worksession to be Held this Weekend
City council members will gather with department heads for an off-site, intensive work session this weekend to discuss long term objectives, capital expenditures, public safety, and quality of life issues in the City of Bixby. This focused approach is employed by many cities, organizations, and companies when the issues to be discussed are complex or wide-ranging and require more time than what is possible in a typical hour long work session before a council meeting. Agenda items for this public work session include critical, near-term decision items such as repurposing Bixby’s portion of the expiring Vision 2025 sales taxes for downtown river corridor development and employing additional police, fire, and street department personnel. The date and location were chosen by consensus of City Council members earlier in the summer.
The sessions will be held Friday evening and all day Saturday in donated space at Grand Lake. No action or voting happens during a work session, though councils often use this time to explore issues and ideas that then subsequently come before council for a vote or action at a later date. Both Friday and Saturday’s sessions will be recorded and citizens can view the recordings afterward on the City of Bixby website or on YouTube.
Citizens can visit the City Council page http://www.bixbyok.gov/city-government/city-councilors/ to download a ward map, email councilors, and find councilor phone numbers.
