Bixby becomes the first city in Oklahoma to have fiber based gigabit Internet service.

For Immediate Release:

Bixby, Oklahoma 12-03-14 – One of Oklahoma’s fastest growing communities is putting Oklahoma on the national broadband Internet map. Bixby joins a small but elite group of communities that have gigabit, or 1,000 Mbps, Internet connectivity for residential use. The Bixby area already has over 45 residential developments with roughly 4,600 homes served by fiber based Internet services supplied by BTC Broadband, a 100 year old telecommunications company headquartered in Bixby. Beginning with this announcement, all of these households will now have access to gigabit broadband Internet. Bixby also has 14 additional residential developments slated, which will expand that footprint for another roughly 1,400 homes. Virtually all new commercial or residential development since 2005 has included fiber optic cabling to the home or business.

“The City of Bixby continues to keep its eye on the future of our society, which is most decidedly digital, and it’s important to us that Bixby stay in the forefront of technology.   Gigabit Internet is a critical part of our economic development strategy and it’s a component we feel will foster growth in all areas of our city and region.   It’s critical that civic and business leaders alike recognize the economic significance,” notes John Easton, Bixby Mayor.  “Bixby has for years already had a reputation for being a high quality, high growth residential community, and home to one the state’s premier school districts. But more recently, it has increasingly been recognized as an ideal location for high-paying professional services jobs, distribution and industry to prosper. This announcement from BTC Broadband will serve to further catalyze that trend, and have a far reaching effect on everything from high-tech start-up companies, to established businesses who are looking to relocate or expand, to all facets of education.  Gigabit Internet access has the potential to foster growth and enable efficiencies for all types of industry, not to mention the positive influence in the general consumer’s user experience” adds Bixby City Manager, Doug Enevoldsen.

“From the Chamber standpoint, we could not be more excited, says Krystal Crockett, President/CEO of the Bixby Chamber of Commerce.   We know Bixby is a thriving community and our Chamber boasts some of the highest growth numbers in the state, but gigabit Internet access from BTC Broadband is a huge economic incentive worthy of new businesses as well as ones already established here.”    Scott Floyd, President of BTC Broadband adds, “Because of our fiber based infrastructure and our expertise and quality service, there is virtually no network need that is beyond our capabilities.  We can offer business customers the industry’s fastest speeds and capacity as well as diverse networking, all at extremely competitive rates.  We are very proud to be able to unleash the power of our fiber and bring world class broadband speeds to the community in which we live, work and play.”

“Affordable ultra-high-speed Internet has the ability to stimulate economic growth and incentive and position our community and our state to compete as a viable, top-ranked place to raise a family and also to grow a business,” says Congressman Jim Bridenstine, 1st District Oklahoma.  “We are fortunate to have cutting-edge companies such as BTC Broadband to help position the state of Oklahoma to be among the technology leaders of the 21st century.”
