The Bixby Fire Dept. enjoys a day with the kids participating in the Kids Firefighter Challenge and providing medical needs to the public at the Bixby Freedom Celebration. Bixby Fire Department’s first annual Kids Firefighter Challenge event saw over 100 kids compete in a simulated firefighter activity obstacle course. Firefighters also manned the first aid tent where they passed out souvenirs for the kids and rendered first aid to several attendees. The Firefighter Challenge course simulates the real Firefighter Combat Challenge course just on a smaller scale. The course consisted of a rope pull, hose carry through a rope ladder, chop a 4x4 piece of wood with a rubber mallet, run through a series of cones, advance a hose line and spray a target and make a rescue of a child sized mannequin. Each participant was given a firefighter helmet as well as a chance to win other prizes.
