Bixby Fire Department

In an effort to provide the most comprehensive and efficient emergency medical service to its citizens, the Bixby Fire Department is currently in the process of implementing a department operated ambulance service. Before advancing too far into the process, the City of Bixby seeks to hire an EMS Chief to help oversee the planning, oversight and implementation of this expansive project. Job Summary

The EMS Chief will be expected to work closely with the Fire Chief in planning and developing all facet of the ambulance service. The EMS Chief shall, be responsible for emergency medical training, medical supplies, billing, reports, and the critique of personnel and procedures. The EMS Chief shall work with the Medical Director to develop, maintain, and revise protocol for medical procedures for the Bixby Fire Department, work with the State Department of Health Rules and Regulations and develop specifications for the purchase of ambulances and equipment.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Must have the ability to provide effective leadership and to plan, assign and direct the work of a number of subordinates.
  • Ability to plan, initiate and carryout long-term programs in fire administration, training and emergency medical services.
  • Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, orally and in writing, to groups and individuals.

Licenses and Certifications & Minimum Qualifications

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Oklahoma driver’s license and have a driving record sufficient to meet and maintain a status of insurability with the City's insurance carrier.
  • Must be State and National Registered Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic (NREMT-P).
  • Must have a minimum of five (5) years of continuous service as a Firefighter/Paramedic or equivalent training/experience as determined by the Fire Chief.
  • Employee will be based in an office and generally works an 8-hour day. Work to be performed primarily in office, vehicles, and fire stations.
  • Occasionally employee may engage directly in firefighting, rescue, E.M.S. and emergency response activities and is therefore intermittently subject to severe job hazards and mental stress.
